Bryn Pottie Releases Debut Novel
Growing up in small town Nova Scotia, and spending his adulthood writing for drunk comedy audiences and children’s television has uniquely poised Bryn Pottie to write his debut novel, The Great Lunenburglary. The novel follows a rowdy bunch of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia teenagers as they steal the Bluenose in 1922.
The Great Lunenburglary is a hilarious debut novel that was released June 12, 2025 on Moose House Press. Bryn Pottie is well known to Parton and Pearl readers as the writer of one of our most read articles ever “Top 10 Country Songs About Driving an 18 Wheeler”. Needless to say, we’re darn proud of him.
It’s 1922 in Lunenburg, and teenage musical duo Jigtallica are at a crossroads. Ambitious fiddler and frontman Elias Oickle dreams of breaking free from small town life and sharing Jigtallica’s new ‘thrash fiddle’ sound with the world. Anxious tin flutist Angus Walters Junior has dreams of stepping out of the shadow of his own father, domineering captain of the Bluenose; Canada’s most iconic boat. He’s got his work cut out for him, because after her victory at the International Fisherman’s Cup schooner race, Bluenose-mania has reached a fever pitch in Lunenburg.
The hype has attracted the attention of radio personality, Rita MacMurphy. When Elias and Angus Junior find Rita, she proposes a trade: A chance to perform on air, in exchange for a joyride on the legendary Bluenose.
The boys recruit a mysterious drifter with a heart of gold, the two hardest partying sisters in town, and Angus Junior’s bookish girlfriend to help them pull off the greatest schooner heist in Lunenburg history. But all is not as it appears, and upon setting sail, the crew ends up in the middle of a conspiracy to destroy not only the Bluenose, but Nova Scotia itself.
Bryn Pottie grew up in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and currently resides about 45 minutes away, in Liverpool. After studying at Humber College under SCTV alumni Joe Flaherty and Robin Duke, Bryn joined Canadian Comedy Award winning sketch troupe The Boom, where he wrote and performed for sold out Toronto crowds, alongside Canadian comedy icons Scott Thompson and Colin Mochrie.
Bryn has toured North America as half of the comedy slam poetry duo Definition of Knowledge with Hannan Younis, including appearances at Just For Laughs, Toronto Fringe, Austin Sketchfest, and Boston’s Women in Comedy Festival. Bryn wrote for two seasons on the Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs TV series, and for humour sites such as The Beaverton and The Lunenburg Barnacle.
