Review: Chris and Seán are Tony and Keith in Nature

It was a blessing to spend the evening of September 29 in the year of our lord 2020 on the couch, ignoring the American presidential debate, instead listening to Chris Locke and Seán Cullen riff on such aggressively non-topical subjects such as: walruses; wig shopping; and growing up as a delicious pasta (I won’t spoil which type).

The premise of the album is that Chris and Seán are two people named Tony and Keith, and that they are standing outside, which subverts the idea that a comedy album needs a premise at all. The joke per minute ratio is high; listeners are instantly involved in a surreal conversation about raisins and a terrible way to spend halloween.

The best part might be the insane, vivid images that Cullen conjures on a whim. (It’s truly a wonderful way to experience Weird Al pulling a very long feather out of his own throat.)

Locke and Cullen have the chemistry of a classic comedy duo, taking genuine pleasure in bringing scenes to ludicrous places.

In a time when the tradition of the comedic double act has mostly been supplanted by buddy comedies, and podcasts about buddy comedies, Tony and Keith In Nature is a breath of fresh air.*

Chris and Sean are Tony and Keith in Nature was released September 20, 2020.
