Review: Canada's Drag Race, S1 E10 - U Wear It Well

Each week Toronto based comedian Chris Middleton reviews the latest episode of Canada’s Drag Race. The Canadian version of the worldwide phenomenon RuPaul’s Drag Race premiered July 2 on Crave. The main judges and mentors are Stacey McKenzie, Brooke Lynn Hytes, and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman.

Okay, I’m so sad I almost don’t want to write this (mostly because I’m out of a job now . . . please hire me!). Our Canada’s Drag Race journey has come to an end with this finale, and it was one of the tightest top threes in the franchise’s herstory™. Who won? Keep reading, babe (hehehe).

In classic Drag Race finale fashion, the top three were tasked with writing their own verses and performing a remix of the RuPaul song U Wear It Well, even though he couldn’t be bothered to show up for the finale. All these queens demonstrated they could turn a verse from the episode 3 Not Sorry Aboot It Girl Group challenge. But Hollywood Jade also sent them into a bumper car extravaganza with his choreography, so I was nervous going into this. 

This performance proved that all these queens deserved this crown. Priyanka showed she is a sexy and goofy pop STAR. Scarlett stomped every inch of that stage with her unique aesthetic. Rita Baga was the campy French Canadian diva with an angelic voice. All of these girls strutted off the struggle bus and gave us superb choreography!

The special guest judge this week is Traci Melchor. FINALLY all those squirrel friend wrist exercises paid off, and was able to take the panel by storm!

The Coronation Eleganza runway made choosing a winner harder! Rita’s alien queen was so out of this world Michelle Visage officially changed her favourite colour to green. This relish would’ve looked delicious on top of a hot dog. Brooke Lynn’s gasp when Bobo turned the corner was everything you need to know about this runway. The black gown with the pink interior was Hot Topic chique (or Hot Topique, if you will). Priyanka’s lehenga was screaming her name as hard as we all were the entire season, and we love to see (and hear) it. All these girls served exactly who they were with this last runway, and it was beautiful to witness.

The Untucked reunion was so heartwarming. All the returning queens came back, and sang each other's praises. Priyanka also got read for failing in the Snatch Game (ALWAYS listen to Tynomi!). Also, Kyne proving how delusional she is only made me wish she’d stayed longer. You know I love the drama!

All these returning queens got a chance to showcase their own Coronation Eleganza on the runway, and they all looked sickening. The two standouts were Anastarzia with that gold feathered gown, and Ilona with her jingle dress in honour of MMIWG. Also, can we all take a minute to remember how pretty Kiara is? The nerve of this girl - no wonder Kiki always kai kais.

The judges opted to let all three queens lip sync, thinking it’d be easier to choose a winner. HA! Little did they know each one would serve a lip syncs worthy of this crown! This race was so close, it could’ve gone to any of them. But I’m definitely not mad about this winner so . . .

CONGRATULATIONS, PRIYANKA! You no longer have to ask what your name is, because we all know it now!
